These are some images from a trip into the Tararua range which is about an hour north of Wellington, the highest tops are around 1.500 meteres high, there are good huts on the ridgelines and valleys to stay in, we chose a round of Jumbo and Mt Holdsworth, the beautiful forests are a highlight of the range. We have a plan to climb Mitre, the highest peak in a few months, I would also like to do the Southern Crossing this year, a 38k traverse across the high tops, then perhaps the harder Northern crossing.

Hectors' dolphins, Akaroa.

Jenni, Kaikoura.

In the New year period of 2009 Jenni and I decided to take a holiday on the South Island, we had a great time with beautiful sunny days for three weeks, here are a few of the highlights.

Here are some pictures of my friend Andy and I from our trip to Italy, we went as sort of a farewell before I had to leave for New Zealand, we have been climbing and walking the hills together for around twenty two years. The plan was to climb a few mountains to get fit for an attempt on Gran Paradiso, the highest mountain in Italy, we made it to within 50 metres of the summit whereupon we decided to descend due to me being exhausted and showing effects of the altitude.

Thinking about getting back into the hills, got a plan to climb Mitre the highest peak in the Tararuas north of Wellington. Also need to get out taking some more photographs. Need to do something other than work... by the way it seems to take a while to download a photo.

This is an image from just above Jumbo hut itn the Tararuas.
